How to Create A Course As An Online Coach or Service Provider
Are you an online coach or service provider looking to scale your business? Discover how to create a profitable course and add more income streams while making a greater impact. Follow these steps to turn your expertise into a transformational online course.
1: Define Your Course Idea
Your course idea is basically the central topic and outcome of your course. This can be the same outcome as your 1:1 coaching program or your services as a service provider except in an approach that people can do it on their own or in their own time.
I recommend you do some market research and find the BIGGEST - usually the most urgent - and MOST COMMON need of your ideal student. You can do market research in different ways such as doing a poll on your IG stories or FB group and hopping on a few quick market research calls to delve deeper into their struggles and desires.
If you have built your audience by now and you don't have time to hop on calls, you can try sending out a survey form asking about their 1) biggest struggles, 2) biggest desires, and 3) what's holding them back from achieving those desires. This will give you clarity and ensure that your course idea is PROFITABLE & transformational.
2: Outline Your Course with Your Ideal Students in Mind
As a coach and expert, I'm sure you must feel overwhelmed by the idea of having to fit everything you know into your course. But here's my advice: think about the SHORTEST path to success for your course student. If you can teach them at least 5-10 steps and delve deeper into each of them, what would those steps consist? This will guide you in outlining your course.
But most importantly, put your ideal students in mind FIRST. As experts, we tend to teach what we know and forget that the people who are going through our course are not at the same level of expertise as we do. Avoid jargons, explain complex concepts, and as much as you can, simplify your course outline and curriculum so your students will not feel overwhelmed.
3: Record Your Course Content
When you record your course content, you don't have to overthink the process and be caught up in perfectionism. Remember, done is better than perfect. You can always improve your course.
Trust me, your students will NOT judge the value of your course based on what camera and equipment you used in recording. A high-quality video and audio will help in making the course learning experience better, sure, but I believe your content value - what you teach - outweighs your production value - i.e. what your equipment is.
4: Set Up Your Course
When setting up your course, the first decision you have to make is to choose which online course platform to go with. This platform should at the very least host your course content in that your students will need to log in to access them. Without this, your content can easily be stolen or shared (and we don't want that, right?)
Choose an online course platform like Kajabi or Thinkific and set up your course lessons there. You should also be able to see what the course experience is like from the moment they get to your sales page, purchase, and enroll, up to the end of the course. It helps that all of your course pages look on-brand and are set up in a seamless way so your course students can eventually become your brand ambassadors just because they loved your course so much.
5: Launch and Promote Your Course
From the very beginning, you know that your course answers a problem or fills a need of your ideal students. So if you know people NEED your course and you have the solution to what could be holding them back or keeping them stuck, would you stay silent? No, right? I bet you will feel more responsible to get your course out to as many people as possible. I bet you will be more unapologetic in selling your course. This should be your mindset coming into launching and promoting your course.
Also, I always say this to my clients and students - your launch starts the moment you get your course idea. You have to start talking about it and building excitement for your course so that, when launch time comes, they're more than ready and happy to enroll in your course because they've gotten to know you and they've now realized that this course is the right course for them.
